Portfolio

I create my art works by sewing with wheat braid straw - a traditional millinery material. I’ve always been drawn to creating beauty from humble materials and reinterpreting them in a new way. After many years of sewing with straw for my hat brand The Brim Label, I’ve recently reimagined how I work with millinery straw, challenging its intended use by manipulating the braid into bold, fluid artworks. Individual strands of wheat straw braid are sewn side by side, then hand stitched with an embroidery thread atop a background of either paper or sinamay (a woven natural fibre derived from the banana plant family).

I've shared close up and 'in progress' photos of these artworks on my Instagram @thebrimlabel so I'd recommend taking a look there too.
